Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat, India, on June 16, 2023, with windspeeds of 65 mph causing widespread flooding and damage. More than 100,000 people were displaced after the storm and nearly 8,700 homes were destroyed, resulting in increased health, water, sanitation, hygiene and shelter needs. Americares India is deploying doctors and support staff to embed with two local partners’ medical units in affected communities. The medical teams are expected to provide primary care services at schools, clinics, or community centers for 10 days, starting June 30, with plans to reach 2,000 patients. Americares is also working with partner organizations to help distribute relief supplies to affected households.
