Hurricane Beryl powered through the Caribbean as a major hurricane, gaining strength and hitting Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines on July 1 before taking aim at Jamaica as a Category 4 storm with sustained winds up to 145 mph and a dangerous storm surge.
