On September 10, Tropical Storm Daniel brought heavy rainfall and flooding across the Mediterranean and northeast Libya. This weather led to at least 2 major dam breakages releasing more than 30 million cubic meters of water into the city of Derna and surrounding areas. The current death toll is officially 3,958 and more than 9,000 people are still missing with 40,059 people displaced.

Americares Emergency Response Team is delivering urgently needed medicines to supply mobile clinics treating survivors in the hardest hit communities. Our first shipment provides enough medicine to support 100,000 survivors for three months.

We are also exploring options with our partner in the region to support their relief programs.
