The health-focused relief and development organization also has staff prepositioned in the Dominican Republic and in its office in Haiti, and has a team ready to deploy to Florida.

Stamford, Conn.— August 25, 2017— Americares has deployed an emergency response team to Texas to assist in Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Now a Category 2 hurricane, Harvey is rapidly gaining strength and is forecast to develop into a Category 3 storm, with winds of at least 111 miles per hour, before making landfall near Corpus Christi.

Americares has made a commitment to create or expand access to family planning commodities and integrate health education into maternal and child health programs in up to five countries.

President George H.W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush will be honored for their dedication to humanitarian causes at the 30th annual Americares Airlift Benefit in October. The Bushes will be the inaugural recipients of the Bob and Leila Macauley Humanitarian Spirit Award.
