Stamford, Conn. –Jan. 18, 2024 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, is pleased to announce the election of Jean-Marc Laouchez to its Board of Directors. His three-year term began Jan. 1.

Stamford, Conn. – Dec. 20, 2023 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, has welcomed Elena Ateva as its new climate and disaster resilience director. Elena leads the design and direction of innovative global programming that prevents or addresses the health impacts of climate change.

Americares has been named the 9th largest charity in the United States by Forbes. The 2023 list of America’s Top 100 Charities is ranked by private donations. Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, brought in $1.35 billion in donations—both financial gifts and product donations—during the most recently reported fiscal year.

Americares today announced that it was awarded $5 million by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration to continue to meet the health needs of the thousands of Venezuelans and other migrants entering Colombia daily in search of a better life.

Americares and the Center for Climate, Health and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE), today announced health clinics in Arizona, Florida and Louisiana will pilot a program to protect the most vulnerable patients from the health impacts of climate change, including extreme heat.

Americares is training more than 350 school teachers, social workers, counselors, psychologists and administrative staff to better identify, assess and respond to the mental health needs of students dealing with the psychological effects caused by major storms. The Americares Mental Health and Psychosocial Support team based in San Juan began the trainings in five schools across Bayamón, Morovis, Naranjito, Orocovis and Toa Alta.

Stamford, Conn. – Sept. 13, 2023 – Americares and Quest Diagnostics, with the Quest Diagnostics Foundation, are teaming up to provide no-cost diagnostic services and expanded telehealth services to free and charitable clinics across the United States to reduce health disparities in underserved communities.

Stamford, Conn. – Aug. 30, 2023 – Americares is preparing to deploy an emergency response team to Florida to respond to Hurricane Idalia, which made landfall today as a Category 3 storm along Florida’s Gulf Coast. An Americares emergency response team is expected to be on the ground in Florida by the end of the week.

Stamford, Conn. – Aug. 1, 2023 – Registered nurse Karitza Melendez has been named clinic director of the Fred Weisman Americares Free Clinic of Bridgeport. In her new role, Melendez oversees the day-to-day operations of the clinic, which serves an average of 400 low-income, uninsured residents of the greater Bridgeport area each year.

Stamford, Conn. – July 26, 2023 – The Americares team in the Philippines is preparing to provide medical care to survivors of Typhoon Doksuri. A mobile medical team will soon depart Manila to provide essential primary health care services in Isabela province where flooding has left roads impassable.

Stamford, Conn. – July 13, 2023 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, has welcomed Provash Budden as deputy senior vice president of emergency programs. In his new role, Budden oversees Americares readiness, response and recovery programs in the U.S. and around the world.

Americares is preparing to dispatch a mobile medical team to western Haiti to provide care in communities isolated by the recent flooding and earthquakes. The health-focused relief and development organization plans to have a team of nurses and a physician providing primary care services to children and adults in the Grand’Anse department starting next week. Americares is launching the operation at the request of Haiti’s Ministry of Health and Population.

Stamford, Conn. – May 10, 2023 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, is pleased to announce the promotion of Shripad Desai to deputy senior vice president and country team liaison. In this elevated role, Desai is responsible for working directly with Americares country team leaders in Colombia, El Salvador, India, Liberia, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Tanzania, to build and sustain the organization’s local/global operating model. Desai supports country teams managing programs at the local level, as well as ensures country directors provide input into decisions made by Americares global leadership team.
