AmeriCares today announced a new grant program to rebuild health care facilities and food banks damaged by Hurricane Ike. AmeriCares plans to award grants totaling $250,000 to hospitals, clinics, hospices, nursing homes and food banks in Texas.
Qualifying institutions will each receive $25,000 to $50,000. The funds may be used to rebuild or clean up health care facilities damaged by Ike, expand services, or purchase urgently needed materials and equipment.
Only applications from not-for-profit organizations providing primary care in communities affected by the hurricane will be considered. Applications must be received by Oct. 31, 2008. To request an application, contact AmeriCares Grants Administrator Kendra Hanson at (203) 658-9500.
AmeriCares also sent a mobile clinic to Houston earlier this week. Staff of the Legacy Community Health Services clinic in the Montrose neighborhood has been using the facility’s exam room to treat patients. The clinic has been unable to open due to power outages.
