STAMFORD, CT – In response to the devastation caused by recent hurricanes, AmeriCares, a nonprofit international relief organization, has launched the next phase of its relief efforts for Haiti today with a massive airlift of medicines and medical supplies. The shipment, valued at nearly $3 million, has the potential to treat the emergency medical needs of tens of thousands of people displaced by the flooding that has followed the storms.
“This has been a harrowing year for Haiti, and AmeriCares is committed to providing important medical aid to communities affected by the hurricanes and tropical storms that have swept through the country in recent weeks,” said Curt Welling, President & CEO of AmeriCares. “We are very proud to be a part of this relief effort and join our colleagues in providing health and hope to this vulnerable country and those most impacted in the areas around Gonaives.”
AmeriCares will be working on the ground with our partners to distribute critically-needed supplies, including antibiotics to help treat infections and pain medicines for the seriously injured, as well as multivitamins and IV solutions to tackle growing battles against dehydration and malnutrition. The medicines will be delivered to various ministry of health hospitals, clinics and local nonprofit organizations across the country. This airlift follows AmeriCares recent shipment, which included over $400,000 worth of medicines and medical supplies.
