STAMFORD, CT — AmeriCares, a global health and disaster relief organization, today announced it has reached a new milestone of delivering and distributing more than $10 billion in medical assistance to people in need around the world and across the U.S. AmeriCares works to restore health and save lives by delivering critical medicines and medical supplies to a network of over 2,500 hospitals, clinics and community health organizations treating hundreds of millions of people.
“Reaching $10 billion in aid is an important milestone in our nearly three decades of responding to people in need not just during times of natural disaster, but also on a daily basis helping to fill critical gaps in health care,” said AmeriCares President and CEO Curt Welling. “It is first and foremost important because it means we have saved millions of lives and improved access to medicines. We know AmeriCares did not achieve such a milestone alone. We are deeply grateful to our donors and partners who have supported us with financial and gift-in-kind donations that make our work possible,” added Mr. Welling.
By maintaining relationships with more than 160 pharmaceutical and medical supply companies in the U.S., Europe and India that donate products, AmeriCares distributes medical aid to health care partners on the ground that provide treatment. These trusted partners understand the local health care issues, provide valuable needs assessments and help to effectively allocate AmeriCares donations.
“We are the leader in medical gift-in-kind donations and have developed a model that is efficient, time-tested and impactful. Our commitment to ensure every donation is maximized means that for every $100 donated, AmeriCares is able to deliver more than $3,500 in medical aid,” he added.
