Stamford, Conn. – March 22, 2012 – AmeriCares, the global health and disaster relief organization, recently received two dental chairs from Midmark Corporation to improve dental care services for impoverished communities in Paraguay. The donated chairs will be used by medical teams in Paraguay providing free health care and dental care to the poor and under-served in hard-to-reach rural areas. In Paraguay, health care professionals are scarce – there are only 11 physicians for every 10,000 residents – and those working in the field are often concentrated in urban centers, leaving few options for the poorest residents in rural communities. AmeriCares supports medical brigades working in rural areas of the country, such as those deployed by the Paraguayan Armed Forces’ Health Services Division, with ongoing donations of medicines, medical supplies and equipment. All of the care patients receive is provided free of charge.
“Midmark chose to partner with AmeriCares on this project because of their dedication to serve long-term humanitarian assistance programs in developing countries,” said Midmark Corporation Community Relations Manager Mitch Eiting. “Their goals align with Midmark’s mission to passionately want to make a positive difference in the practice of healthcare and in every life we touch.”
