Stamford, Conn. – Nov. 13, 2012 – AmeriCares Manager of Emergency Response Kate Dischino was honored for her Hurricane Sandy relief work at Glamour’s 2012 Women of the Year Awards in New York City on Monday, November 12. Dischino was honored as one of the female responders to Hurricane Sandy at the Carnegie Hall event. Dischino, a Stamford resident, has been coordinating the AmeriCares Sandy response, working nonstop to deliver aid to the hardest-hit communities on the East Coast.
Glamour Magazine has recognized remarkable women with their annual Women of the Year Awards for more than ten years. The 2012 honorees include Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Selena Gomez and photographer Annie Leibovitz.
“Kate has been working around the clock since the disaster hit to ensure that our aid reaches the people most in need,” said AmeriCares President and CEO Curt Welling. “We are thrilled that her heroic efforts were recognized at this remarkable event.”
AmeriCares relief workers are filling the immediate needs of clinics and shelters in the most affected areas. AmeriCares has delivered 45 aid shipments to date, supplying shelters and aid distribution centers with family emergency kits, bottled water, blankets, first aid kits, flashlights and cleaning supplies. The humanitarian aid organization also has a 40-foot mobile clinic traveling to the hardest hit areas of New York City, offering storm victims free flu shots, tetanus vaccines and medical care.
