Stamford, Conn. – Jan. 8, 2025 – Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, is pleased to welcome Bruce Pankey as its chief financial officer and treasurer.

He oversees all aspects of Americares financial management, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, treasury, investments, accounting, grants and financial reporting.

Americares is one of the leading global nonprofit providers of donated medicine and medical supplies, distributing over $1 billion in medicine and supplies to an average of 85 countries each year.

“Bruce brings a wealth of expertise in financial strategy and operational innovation, and we’re thrilled to have him join Americares to help advance our mission,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “His leadership and experience as a strategic business leader will strengthen our efforts to help millions more people around the world access health in the years ahead.”

Pankey brings to Americares more than 25 years of management and leadership experience, including extensive experience in global humanitarian and development work. He most recently served as chief finance and administration officer for Counterpart International, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that works overseas to support food systems, support sustainable ecosystems and empowers women to serve in leadership roles. He also served as chief financial officer for several other nonprofit organizations in the humanitarian sector, including CRDF Global, Pact and Catholic Charities USA. Pankey also spent 13 years in higher education, including 10 years on the finance team at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and a Master of Business Administration from Averett University in Virginia.

“I am honored to join Americares, an organization that brings health and hope to people in need around the world,” said Pankey. “I look forward to using my experience to strengthen our financial operations and ensure we make the greatest possible impact in every community we serve.”

A leader in the humanitarian sector, Americares is No. 8 on Forbes list of Top 100 Charities and has a 4-star rating—the highest possible— from Charity Navigator—America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Americares helps communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters; increase accessibility, availability, affordability and acceptability of medicine and medical supplies; improve and expand clinical services; and prevent disease and promote good health. Since it was founded in 1979, Americares has provided $23 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the United States.
