While the world was watching rescue teams pull earthquake survivors from the rubble in Haiti, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, an India-based pharmaceutical company, was rushing medicines to the country to assist the relief efforts.
“They donated antibiotics, pain relievers, gastrointestinal medicines – whatever was needed to treat survivors,” said Dr. Purvish Parikh, VP & Managing Director of Americares India. “We sent them a wish list and the company very generously provided everything on it.”
To date, Dr. Reddy’s has donated 1.5 tons of medicines to treat earthquake survivors. Americares distributed the products to medical professionals working in dozens of medical facilities, as well as to 31 U.S.-based medical teams that traveled to Haiti in the immediate aftermath through Americares Medical Outreach Program.
It’s just one example of how Dr. Reddy’s and Americares have partnered over the years to assist disaster survivors and improve health care for children and adults living in extreme poverty. Since the company began donating to Americares in 2003, more than $116 million worth of Dr. Reddy’s products have been delivered to people in need in 83 countries.
Dr. Reddy’s products are delivered by Americares during natural disasters in India and around the world, as well as in support of Americares ongoing medical assistance initiatives supporting more than 2,000 hospitals and health clinics. In collaboration with Americares India, Dr. Reddy’s provides financial support for hospital-based disaster preparedness training programs and funds mobile teams of medical professionals providing primary care services and health education for children and adults in rural areas.
“Americares is an ideal partner for our corporate social responsibility program that provides medicines when and where they are needed most because of its network and capability of reaching disaster sites within hours,” said Dr. Reddy’s Senior Vice President Ritha Chandrachud.
